Fabricated Products and Insulated Muffler Covers

Our ability to produce heat insulation covers in complex and custom shapes has lead us in many new directions. By using some of our unique products - such as Pyreflect™, Pyroblanket™, Silicaflex™ and Nomex® Velcro - we can achieve highly customized characteristics of insulation value, abrasion resistance, moisture resistance, and noise reduction.

Custom Exhaust Cover ExteriorThe photos show a custom-designed muffler cover built for Caterpillar® in Peoria, Illinois. In this example, Caterpillar required total fiber containment and the ability to reflect radiant heat back into the exhaust system on heavy equipment. We used a 32oz Pyroblanket® outer covering, as it has the ability to contain loose insulation fibers, flex continuously, and withstand hydraulic fluids and flame in the event of a fire. Our Insulflex® E glass insulation helps achieve a temperature drop of over 350°F (177°C).

Custom Exhaust Cover Interior

On the interior, we used our Pyreflect™ cloth to reflect over 90% of the radiant heat back into the exhaust system.

In addition to mufflers, Insulflex® custom fabricated covers can be used to insulate and protect complete exhaust systems, manifolds and turbos. This is especially important in the forestry and mining industries, where a hydraulic hose failure can easily spray oil onto a hot engine component and ignite a flash fire.

OEM's such as Caterpillar appreciate that all Insulflex® custom fabricated heat covers carry a unique serial number traceable to our Total Quality Management system. This allows for easy replacement and eliminates the need to re-measure when replacement covers are required in the field.

OEM's using Insulflex® heat protection include Caterpillar, John Deere, Kawasaki, and the McLaren Mercedes Formula 1 racing team.

Firesleeve

What is "firesleeve?

Firesleeve (or fire sleeve - either usage applies) is not a brand. Firesleeve is an industry generic term, typically referring to a glass fiber sleeve coated with red silicone rubber. Firesleeve is commonly used to protect hose and cables assemblies from flame and molten metal splash.

The first firesleeve was developed in the early 1970's as a means of flame protection for hydraulic hose assemblies on military aircraft. This influence is still visible today, with fire sleeve available in both industrial and aerospace style versions.

ADL Insulflex is the leading global manufacturer and supplier of firesleeve, and our brands - Pyrojacket® and Pyrosleeve® - are recognized and used around the world.

Industrial-grade Pyrojacket® firesleeve, for example, is most often used in steel plant and metallurgical applications - where the thick coating of silicone rubber immediately sheds molten metal splash before any heat transfer can occur.

Our Aerostyle Pyrojacket® fire sleeve is manufactured according to the SAE AS1072 standard, enabling qualified hose manufacturers to use these sleeves in order to meet SAE AS1055 standards for completed hose assemblies. (This requires a certified test of the complete hose assembly - hose, fittings, and Pyrojacket® firesleeve.)

Prior to selling any sleeving products into any aerospace application, we recommend that our distributors and partners submit a liability waiver as a service to our customers - for them to use without charge or obligation.

It's not unusual to see Aerostyle Pyrojacket® firesleeve employed in the most demanding industrial applications. In fact, most of the Aerostyle Pyrojacket® we sell goes to heavy industrial and commercial applications.

For detailed information on our range of firesleeves, visit our fire sleeve page or call our customer department at (905) 377-1488 in Canada and from the USA toll free at (800) 461-9323.
